Short course: A history of caricature, from the Middle Ages to today
Caricature was not born in the newspaper: it was born in the margin. The hybrid monsters and murderous rabbits that populate the edges of medieval manuscripts are its direct grandparents. This short course follows that genealogy across four sessions: the medieval margin, print satire, the illustrated press of the nineteenth century and contemporary cartooning.
Format: four weekly videoconference sessions, with readings and high-resolution images.
Access: by enquiry, from the contact page, mentioning "Caricature". Places are limited.
